Everyone freaking out about this one POSITIVE song amongst a million NEGATIVE songs using the same method is just insanity. During the CNN coverage you had a panel of parents talking about how they didn't want their kids seeing "Read A Book" on BET, as if the other videos and songs played around it feature more positive messages that their kids SHOULD be watching. Using satire to point out the flaws of the prevailing rap culture is how you trick kids and adults alike into paying attention.

"Does Jesse have a better way to get people to sing a song about reading a book???"
Get real hahaha, he's REACTIONARY not a REVOLUTIONARY. His style of "leadership" is made to "address the problem", not solve it. LOL
And that's why I do not claim him as my "leader"..

Jesse Jackson Calls for 'Radical Reordering' of American Economy is a socialist, like Hilter. watch?v=E_vCLQnebX0
.
Jesse Jackson should start by giving up his $10 million (from celebrity net worth com) before asking others to give up their money. President Obama who also wants to spread the wealth has $5 million. watch?v=Sj4yIE9Dd90 & watch?v=PUvwKVvp3-o

Bomani, I can really respect what you are trying to do, but I think it is kind of compromising to use the language that you do. I understand what Jesse is saying also. I love Christian rappers for this reason, even though some people will turn that away from that message, quick, because they don't care about the religious message. I'm kind of mixed on the issue, though, because, it did get the exposure that this message deserves.
Peace and God Bless

yo, I know Bomani, personal, He always made positive music, without cursing and without dumbing down his lyrics, it took him to do "Read-A-Book" to get any recognition. Jesse Jackson is pointing fingers at Bomani saying that he is degrading our people, what about rappers like lil' wayne, young jeezy, guccie mane, so on and so forth. Jesse Jackson is a "House Nigga" he needs to "read a mother fuckin book" lol

Bush made him do it!

what i realize about rev. jackson and the cnn reporter from the other clip is that they both were more worried about how it looked to white people than the actual effect of the video. rev is out of touch. He is out of touch with the dire situation of the majority of the black population in america. He said dont bring us down to bring us up. WE ARE ALREADY AT THE LOWEST POINT.
-
jesse goes around looking for some small racial issue to blow out of proportionso he can extort money from poor blacks by fear and hatred geared towards whites.

I wanna cut your nuts off.

Jesse Jackson is too old to understand what Bomani is doing with the cartoon. It's too bad, but time and tide catches up to all men. One day we will all be old and confused and scared by the newfangled things youngsters are doing.

rev jackson is sending us back to the 1930's racially.

This debate could go on forever, but let's keep it real. The 106th & Park audience is skewed to a younger audience, period. So if you're making a video "satirizing" the illiteracy of that audience, here's a question for you Bomani--if the kids can't read, what the blip makes you think they even know what satire is or means? If he can show me even 10 kids who signed up for library cards or picked up a newspaper after watching that video, cool.

No matter what your education level is, if my generation and the one following understands anything it's being a smart ass. Sarcasm and satire is a concept that does not depend on school education, just a basic level of critical thinking that we get from "joning" and joking all the time. To assume that someone 11 or 12 does not understand satire is actually insulting. I can show you way more than 10 children who where inspired to do better by the video.
