My homemade pickup winder. The counter is made from a $1 calculator, two wires to a magnetic reed switch short the equals button. Press 1+1 and start the motor. :D

If you want to build this, see how I did it at:
http://brainrender.com/cms/index.php?page=coil-winding-machine

When you get there, pictures can be viewed double by right clicking and viewing the image.

  • oh just one more thing...How can you turn the wire in a good way? I mean you move your fingers from left to right or something like that?

  • @San5a It doesn't really matter, just try to keep moving, and fill in the holes. The whole idea is a random pattern so you don't set up regular patterns in the pickup that add capacitance to the windings. There's a lot more to it than that, but if you get the wire wrapped on the pickup, it will sound good period. ;)

  • Hey, maybe a pretty stupid question...

Can you use this to wind humbuckers?

  • @MYCHEMICALHAMSTERS Yep, most humbuckers are made first as two single individual coils.

  • What kind of humbucker tricks are you using?

  • You rock! How did you do it?

  • link doesn't work man

  • What does that works for????

  • Man you are a Genius!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!! I dont know why I did'nt think of that??????

  • ti chiedo gentilmente di mandarmi un indirizzo per comprare i magneti,e dirmi anche come vanno montati: la parte vicino alla corda respinge o attira ?grazie di cuore !!!! bravooooo

  • Ran6500 the way it could work is if you had a peice of metal on the big spinning wood and it would contact the bit on the side every spin. This connected to a battery would then be connected the the add button... I think

  • Genious.

  • Hey, either the link is broken or the page it goes to is "broken". (Just seeing a lot of code.) Is there another page with this info? If you need hosting, I'll be putting up a lutherie blog soon, and would be happy to create a mirror of that page.

  • how did you hook up the counter?..
