@TheAremo there is absolutely nothing "raw" about portia's version. the woman's voice is weird and whiny. she kinda sings like a ghost tbh. do you think portia could do any of what shanice does in this song? it takes a very strong voice to sing a song full of 5th octave belts(including a sustained G#5) and few people can hit a G#6 whistle in tune and with clarity. please explain what is "overdramatized" about shanice's rendition.

@TheAremo ONLY a backward and limited music listener would DARE to condemn and then advertise Lovers' Rock to a Urban R&B audience. This is what this song is, so if you want to promote Portia go and do so on Beres Hammond videos. BUT you calling this rendition crap WITHOUT saying what elements make it such SHOWS your IGNORANCE. At least I can say why Portia is BORING as it LACKS interpretation and emotions, is predictable and vocally WEAK, with an annoying beat. You must be high on cannabis?

@TheAremo Don't use words you DON'T know. At least I don't LIE as you did when you DENIED liking Stacy's version. The FACT I alerted you of is 1. The producer who did the original also did this version; a CLEAR sign of musical growth - However, to you he has regressed because he is appealing to a contemporary audience. Your position tells you are musically OUT OF DATE! I don't think this version is good, I know it is because it has ALL the necessary ingredients and NOT as predictable as Portia's

You are confusing your personal taste with FACTs. You are subsituting Opinion for Reality. I prefer the Lovers rock version. @TheAremo How can you say I took it personally when there is no I or Me in the response? I am simply here to share facts NOT to get personal. However, 'solid production' also speaks to TALENT. There is nothing creative about lovers rock as it's like singing to a mundane beat. IF you were a lover of music, no matter how different the elements have changed, you'd still be able to identify some good - As expressed earlier, the same man who did the original ALSO produced this STELLAR version.

@Kumtekmeon - I am not sure why you have taken my comments so personally. Neither did I state that I liked Stacey Latishaws verison. My preference is the lover's rock version. If you are going to do a cover then at the least it should be improved upon, and at the most you version should have an interruptaion that make's the song unique and has your stamped on it. You it the nail on the head when you stated "This is a solid PRODUCTION, that leaves little leway for TALENT!

Being that you like Stacy's version and hate this one shows clearly that while the composer and producer of Stacy's version has GROWN, you are still stuck in the past. Today's music might suck, BUT this is SOLID production from a GREAT vocalist and a talented producer who can make his song appeals to the Past, Present AND Future - Unfortunately you are yet to grow.
