  • @leonrrhayes That's the Harry McClintock version actually.

  • I remember listening to this as a kid. My father has the original 78 rpm records that my grandmother bought brand new. Sounds awesome. Thank you.

  • @leonrrhayes i fucking hope not cause this version fucking sucks

  • I love this song it's in the movie o 'brother where art thou'

  • Jack Tripper Sr.

  • @neatoauctions Yeah man!!!! ....the pharmacie`s backdoors don`t lock... I FEEL YA!!! ;-)

  • At 1:44 it should be "There's a lake of stew And whiskey too You can paddle all Around in a big canoe

On the big rock candy mountain"

  • Why the performer of this tune decided to omit some of the original lyrics is unclear. The redacted passage is: “On, The Big Rock Candy Mountain, Girls never wear a thing. An’ to your surprise, when you wake up, you’ll find a lipstick ring. The pharmacies’ backdoors don’t lock, and syringes grow on trees. There’s opium goo, and cocaine too; Those things occur in nature, in case yuh didn’t knew, on The Big Rock Candy Mountain.”
  • I didn't see that anyone mentioned "Haywire Mac" Harry McClintock. Chief King hobo of the Northern Pacific Railway, according to Utah Phillips. Haywire Mac was a well known busker (hobo singer) and gets the credit for the hobo version (with the cigarette trees etc.) and it's his version in the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou".

Recording Album on Folkways Records FD 5272.

    I had a little red record when I was 4 or 5 (1951) - don't remember which version.....but I'm a non smoker ....so.....

  • The music doesn't start until 0:32!
