SelectPlusLibertarian Party Looks to Bob Barr As NomineeLibertarian Party Looks to Bob Barr As NomineeThe Associated PressThe Libertarian Party on Sunday picked former Republican Rep. Bob Barr to be its presidential candidate after six rounds of balloting. Barr left the GOP in 2006. (May 26)Presidential conventions usually conjure images of confetti and falling balloons.Where huge crowds pack their way into oversized stadiums to show support for well-known national figures. But on Sunday, as the Libertarian Party gathered in Colorado to select their candidate, it was clear this event was different.Something the third party typically tries to highlight...SOT: Bob Barr -- "We are on the verge of presenting to the American people, not just to the Libertarian Party, but to the American People a ticket of dynamism" And when all the votes were tallied after six rounds of balloting --- the Libertarians picked former Republican House Member Bob Barr.A man who left the G-O-P in 2006 --- after growing disenchanted with, what he called, bloated spending and civil liberties intrusions by the Bush Administration.Barr says he expects the party to be on the ballot in at least 48 states and perhaps all 50 if the party can qualify in West Virginia and Oklahoma. He says he has no intention of being a spoiler and that he plans on winning.SOT: BarrSunday's election also marked the end of the latest chapter in the political career of Mike Gravel, a former senator from Alaska who recently dropped out of the Democratic presidential race.Gravel was eliminated in the fourth round of voting. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

  • You need to realize you have been quietly brainwashed by the media and power-elite. To not vote third-party is to throw your vote away...

  • Voting for Third Party Candidates are NOT a waste of a vote. The 2 parties that run the universe can only be weakened by everyone who votes for third parties. Obama can't change crap because he does not want too. The main parties run on meaningless platforms that do nothing. Only when they feel politically threatened will we have real change.

  • so if ron paul gets punked outta the primaries by fox news again.........

  • i hope that this is the party that rises in the new political spotlight. this party has true american values. this party should come to "power". this party has it's flaws but all parties do and i would rather have barr elected than to have ralph nader elected. his presidential candidacy is a joke. even though i am a democrat, and 16 years old, i believe that having an only two party system, as i like to call it, with the democrats and republicans is no different than having a one party state.

  • Actually most countries didn't go to war to end slavery! Most countries paid top dollar for the slaves and then released them! This is history!!! Why am I an idiot for knowing history?

  • "and we never had to go to war to end slavery."

And with those words you've uttered, you've shown the entire world what a flaming idiot you are.

  • The constitution can trump state's right when the state does not protect the rights and liberties of the individual. Slavery was a horrible system and we never had to go to war to end slavery. I am glad that the constitution finally upheld the fact that African-Americans were equals and trumped the states to protect individual liberty! Lincoln was not a socialist. People everyday defend state's rights for abortion, gun ownership laws,........ I am trying to end slavery today. Peace!

  • I think the last time anyone whined for "state's rights" was when the Confederacy demanded to keep their slaves. Too bad that pinko socialist Abraham Lincoln had to meddle in someone else's affairs, huh?

  • State's rights and family is the best way to take care of our elderly as well as keeping economic conditions strong so that less elderly have to rely on services and government force and coercion! Libertarians do want to abolish the system that has stolen money from our elderly and created heavy debt burdens that will hurt future elderly. As the system continues to grow and allows farmers, illegals, and every other type of bs can pull from it Social Security will fail...history repeats itself!

  • Libertarians want to abolish Social Security and condemn millions of old & disabled people to fend for themselves in the streets or to grovel at some church for a little food. Is that the sort of America you want??

Bob Barr - The perfect idiot to represent one of the kookiest of political ideas.

  • freedom, liberty, and integrity are subjective? HA HA HA! Whaaaaaaat!!!!! Actually they are definitive terms. Please tell me you're not my neighbor. Man, I gotta watch my back.
