These ads were created by the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide to oppose Washington's assisted suicide Initiative 1000 in 2008. The ads feature actor Martin Sheen detailing the risks of legalizing assisted suicide, a former nursing school Dean talking about the value of caring for her husband until he died naturally and comfortably, and an ALS patient named John Peyton worrying that disabled people such as himself face increased risks for assisted suicide coercion. Also featured is a poignant message from cancer patient Barbara Wagner, who describes how the state of Oregon wouldn't pay for chemotherapy for her cancer but sent her a letter saying they'd pay for her assisted suicide instead. Tragically, Mrs. Wagner died of cancer soon after these ads were filmed, and just before the election. Because of a late influx of millions of dollars of out of state money just before the election, Washington's assisted suicide initiative passed in November of 2008.
