Thousands of Malaysians gathered at CapSquare, Kuala Lumpur on the 28th of March 2009, in support of the worldwide Earth Hour event.
At 8.30pm local time, several of Kuala Lumpur landmarks shut off its lights for 60 minutes, to draw attention to climate change. This is the first time Malaysia show support to Earth Hour, and participation has grown tremendously, from 400 cities in 2008 to some 4,000 worldwide this year.
In the run up of the Earth Hour event, many celebrities pledges support of the campaign in TV and print advertisements. But has it become just another publicity stunt and will be forgotten months after the event?
Malaysians turning off the lights on Saturday night is all good and impressive, but will we continue dedicating ourselves dealing with the climate change issues when we turn the lights back on?

i guess this is part of the government propaganda to earn profits by doing so. i believe we already have such technology just that it's been suppressed and made not known. so people..wake up!

sunckc, brilliant point! I bet many of this same people partying will take it to streets once the carbon tax comes in because we still don't have a mass production scale of cleaner energy technology and economy just yet. And you're right about the NASA data, many people do not know that Mars is also under global warming now with the icecaps melting just like here on Earth...hmm, if global warming is true that means only one thing...Martian aliens producing CO2??? 0_0 scary...XD

Absolutely right! With myself being a meteorology student, there's still alot of debate towards the data and hype that the global warming fanatics have been putting up lately. There's no doubt that we've added some amount of CO2 into the atmosphere, but truly how much does it count at the end? How does it figure if we compare to the biggest greenhouse gas, H2O? I don't urge pollution b/c it is bad for health, but how much does it attribute to this whole warming fiasco? Ridiculous party freaks...

1.. its a good thing but the way it was implemented, not really..
2.. perlu ke gather.. tutup lampu diam2 ok gak pe..
3.. lagi la byk maksiat berlaku..
something turns useless or even worsen when it destroys more than giving benefits.
my 2 cents.. ;)

well, earth hour was launched in 2007 in Sydney...
actually we're not exactly stupid, just that we started late

u guys look stupid celebrating earth hour like this..things should have been done long time ago to protect the environment and to avoid global warming..less cutting down on trees,less/banned using highly dangerous gas..the leaders know about this problem but they only wait for other international leaders to convince to the international community..a few months after this earth hour event this will go back as usual..no proper education in school are some of the main problems why this thing happen

China US and Europe should be the ones turning off their lights. Malaysia emits less than 1% off the CO2. We have tropical forests to undo our emissions which the polluters in the nothern hemisphere dont. All these syok sendiri lembu dontknow jackshit and simply follow what the mat salleh tell them.

i believe climate is not done by human acts but more to natural cycles. they want to blame it on human so that they can carbon tax the people in the future. according to data collected from nasa, our whole solar system is warming up due to the solar sun activity. i think the people should be aware and find out more about it.
