He's holding a Mameluke sword. It comes with rank and is issued to Generals in the British Army and subsequently the Singapore Army as well.

The sword sling is long as it is a cavalry sword and Generals on parade are usually mounted on horseback anyway.

And I'm pretty sure our friend here has never mounted a horse in his official capacity as an officer. So I don't know why they bother.

Just more ceremonial remnants we inherited from the British I guess.

First of all, it's not a, "stick," it's his sword.

This is how a salute is given when carrying a sword, since the right arm is not free.

So how is a salute given when the right arm is free and you are carrying nothing?

It is not tricky to do the Feu de joie at all. LOL the annoying part is doing the Hormat part of it and the instructors making us hoist up the rifle really long.

you will never know the feeling of standing in the parade for the march in till you march out untill you got to experience it yourself. but if you didnt experience it yourself respect them.

at 5:35,look at the officer beside the President.So many big badges and look at his rank.It is the highest rank a officer can get.Its gold in colour!

i noticed the command given out during the reloading of bullets changed.if i'm not wrong, it was "isikan peluru!" all the way through but instead, its, "isikan lagi!" on the 2nd and 3rd. anyways, happy birthday singapore in advance and i feel honored to be sharing the same birth date as my own country! :D
