A quick tutorial for repainting FS aircraft when the only base textures available are in flattened format with no layers (such as those Carenado provides). This video was done in Adobe Photoshop CS2 - if you use another repainting program, you might have to adapt the technique to that program's capabilities.

  • Yes but you didn't tell use where you got the stripe layer from!

  • @jon157uk -- Uh, I made it. Where else would I have gotten it? ;-)

  • how can I do this in GIMP ? Please Help =D

  • @fsxadi4 Maybe someone else who happens by here will know, but I'm not a GIMP user.

  • Hey Bro please, I really need your help.. i'm trying to make a repaint for my VA, so I decided to Make the "Carenado 172" BUT, i see the texture has only one side of the aircraft.. and I put the logo in one side, and the other sides is a backwards, i don't know what to do, i hope you could help me, bro... i watching that you're using a carenado 172.. Please, help meeeeee.. ='(.... Thanks alot..

  • @rolaxert Sorry, I was painting the 185, which is one of their later models that doesn't have the mirrored texture problem. If the model is mapped so that some textures are mirrored, I'm afraid there's not much you can do about it, other than not put text where the mirroring happens. With the 172, there's a patch on the side of the fuselage that's not mirrored - the part where the registration is located in their paints - and that's the only place you can put text on that one.

  • Superb video - helped a lot. Thanks

  • @fsxadi4 In gimp, there is no "color burn", it's called "Multiply mode" in the layers/channels/paths window.

  • @jon157uk Yeah that is the point dude. You make a layer with the repaint,he made the stripe layer and he could make anything else

That is the point he is showing you how to repaint

  • @WFWomack - maybe you could do a tutorial on how to do that next then?

  • @fsxadi4 it's is done the same way, just tools and what not are in different locations.

  • Hey what font did you use for the N number

  • hi what font did you use for the registration?

  • When you upload to FSX is ther anything special you need to do. The reason I ask is that mine looses some color and has a gloss to it .

    Thanks
