Renate Hilgert and Max-Ulrich Busch started dancing together in 1969 at the Dance Studio Fink in West-Berlin. In 1970 they started dancing competitions and by 1972 they reached the highest class of the German Dance Sport organization winning many champions titles since then: A total of 15 German champions titles in Ballroom, Latin and 10-Dance. European and 3 times World champions 1979-1981, European and World champions Ballroom 1981, 1982. Their personally biggest achievement was winning the Open British Championships in Blackpool 1982. From that point the doctor and sport-instructor turned professionals, and became second at the German Ballroom championships.
In 1985 and 1986 they won the German Ballroom championships and they were finalists at all major competitions with reaching 3rd place at the European championships in 1985 and 4th place at the World championships in 1987. In 1989 Max and Renate stopped competition dancing and both are now internationally recognized trainers, coach and adjudicators
