This is magnificent playing in every sense.He had so much musical flair and brilliance in around 1971 when this was recorded. I heard him many times and have always been an enormous fan.He is so special with Rachmaninov.

Ashkenazy can sound a little slow, but his tone, phrasing and passion are perfect here.....only let down by a poorly tuned piano .
