In this episode we explore how to edit the mode-line. I did only a very little preparation for this episode, so most of the time I'm just coding a tiny new feature onto my screencast functions as a demo of how I code in Emacs using Info, IELM and an elisp buffer.

  • Instead of copying and pasting the previous value of the list, couldn't you have just done "(setq global-mode-string (cdr 'global-mode-string))"?

  • @auv5 Yep.

  • Excellent series of screen cast. Please keep going.

  • Thanks for your series. I'd like to see future topics on: (1) Searching in Org-Mode (sparse tree stuff never works that well), (2) Where go you for documentation and information on Org-mode and (3) how you use emacs for your "professional" programming (what features do you take advantage of, what are some secrets, what are tricks, do you use it as an IDE). If you know about more than one language mode - each would be interesting to learn it from your actual use.

    Thanks. for this series.

  • very good! keep going i am learning alot from you!

  • Great series! :)

I sincerely hope you continue to come up with more episodes of this.

It's not easy to find high quality screen-casts on Emacs.

    Thanks a lot!

  • This was helpful on so many levels! Workflow, elisp, emacs info... etc. Need to re-watch it a couple of times to be able to pick up everything.

  • Very helpful. Thanks for this.

  • Your episodes are getting better and better. GJ
