Not at all just a translation to facilitate comprehension, this is a new, totally SINGABLE English-language version of the legendary Lluís Llach's "Laura" (as I've tried to demonstrate in the video, though I'm a harpsichordist, not a vocalist).
The story of the song goes something like this:
1969: Lluís Llach met the musician who would become for him "a friend, a sister, an accomplice...": Laura Almerich, a trained classical guitarist. They performed together for the first time the day after Christmas. The partnership forged was to last for 38 years.
1977: After eight years of playing together—in all sorts of places, under all sorts of conditions—Llach wrote this song as a surprise gift to Laura Almerich for her saint's day. Surprised her at the end of a concert in Ripoll.
In Llach's own words (translated),
"...People have personified their own feelings of friendship in this song... For many, Laura is the image of loyalty, or friendship, or companionship, or shared wellbeing. [] I don't think they interpret the song as solely my act of friendship, but as theirs toward Laura, and that is quite lovely."
The original lyrics in Catalan:
Avui que et puc fer una cançó
Recordo quan vas arribar
Amb el misteri dels senzills,
Els ulls inquiets, el cos altiu
I amb la rialla dels teus dits
Vares omplir els meus acords
Amb cada nota del teu nom
LAURA.
Es tan dificil recordar
Quans escenaris han sentit
La nostra angoixa per avui
La nostra joia pel demà,
A casa enmig de tants companys
O en trist exili mar enllà,
Mai no ha mancat el teu alè,
LAURA.
I si l'atzar et porta lluny
Que els deus et guardin el camí,
Que t'acompanyin els ocells,
Que t'acaronin els estels,
I en racó d'aquesta veu,
Mentres la pugui fer sentir,
Hi haurà amagat sempre el teu so,
LAURA.
Ei, l'he trobat!
El muntatge és fantàstic, m'ha encantat.
Bona feina! :-D
