April 3, 2007 Storm Intercept and Tornado

Storm intercept in Rush County, Indiana on 4-3-07. Shelf cloud, numerous areas of rotation and a hybrid tornado which passed directly over us briefly. Here, off to our right is a supercell storm, which is caught by the northern bookend of a bow segment coming up from the southwest. Where the two met created a localized area that was highly favorable to storm rotation. Semi overturned 2 miles south of where we were.

I'll admit we got over-excited when the intense stuff hit us, but I hadn't chased since March 12 of 06, and Mark hadn't chased in almost 2 years. It was fun!

Did a tornado actualy form later on in that storm? Nice video by the way, those clouds were pretty impressive.

Actually a very weak tornado formed and basically dropped right on us... the small debris seen in the video was circling around and coming in the passenger window, not to mention the wind nearly turning my truck over.

Laughing in the face of danger, you all are the kind of people I enjoy hanging with. I should have a good bit of free time around May 1st when I am back home again in Indiana from Afghanistan. Might be interesting to do a chase or two.

First off ya have to understand, this was the first chase of the year... we were very excited just to finally be back into a storm.

However we were being ourselves, that certainly wasn't an act for the camera :)
