The EPR™ reactor is a 1,600 MW PWR.
PWR technology represents 56% of the world's operational nuclear capacity (205 million kW out of a total of 368 as of 31/12/2005).
100 PWRs have been built by AREVA in 11 countries, of which 93 are still in operation.

A number of technological advances put the EPR™ reactor at the forefront of reactor safety.
These include additional systems to prevent core meltdown and innovation to mitigate its potential consequences.
These technological advances also ensure high resistance to external hazards, in particular airplane crashes and earthquakes.
