    similar tip for finding the grey point to reduce color casts:

    new layer, fill w/ 50% grey, set to Difference blend mode

    new threshold adjustment layer, slider all the way to left, drag slowly to right. first tones that appear will be the closest to midtones. select this area with grey-point in curves dialog.

    Alex, is this the same as setting a levels layer ? By bringing the sliders in to meet the histogram, I am wonderingly if there is any difference ?
