During Assange's interview with President Correa for his series The World Tomorrow, the two men clearly struck up a bond. Was it during this interview that Assange first got the idea of claiming asylum from a sympathetic Ecuador?

Calling him "my dear Julian", the immediate rapport between Assange and President Correa is obvious. "Are you having fun with this interview Julian? Me too", Correa laughs. Discussion swirls around their mutual mistrust of the USA. "The last thing I'd be is anti-American, however I will call a spade a spade", asserts Correa, as he details his controversial and furious counter-offensive against US interests in Ecuador: after Wikileaks published damning US cables, Correa threw the US ambassador out of the country. "Wikileaks has made us stronger", the president insists. As the colourful interview draws to a close, Correa offers these heartfelt words of comfort to Assange: "Welcome to the club of the persecuted!"

Us leftists like to be friends with natives, ever since Hugo died I have been a little more fond of pink tide leaders. I mean it's our fault for some countries in Latin America hating us, cause we've been so nosy, like why the Baltic states, Georgia and most of eastern Europe don't like Russia or why other Asian countries dislike China, big countries tend to be a little bit more disliked cause of their aggressiveness and countries tend to have bad relations as a consequence.

That's not true. Exit polling data shows that Correa has broad support among all groups: indigenous, non-indigenous, the poor, the middle class, even the rich to some extent (as the economy is doing well). Yes, Correa's opposition has managed to get some indigenous groups to protest certain projects that are necessary for Ecuador's development, but with marginal support.

14 million Ecuadorians do live in Ecuador, and in the last election Correa won by a margin of 20-30 points over the next guy. That tells you all you need to do about what Ecuadorians who live in Ecuador think about their government. (Plus there's not a single allegation that members of the opposition have been killed. If you know of one, let's see names.)

The us would have launched an attack on South America like in the 60's in Nicaragua/Honduras/el Salvador if it had a legal cover to do it. South America does not have terrorist organisations threating to the world, this cannot attack them.

INTEGRITY IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! "There will never be a coup de ta in America..because there is no US embassy there.". lol.. I love the joke, but in all honesty, LBJ and Hoover did it to the US in '63 with the help of CIA of course. Killed the president and then his US Attorney General..LBJ readily stepped in to undo all the good Kennedy intended to do..namely bust up the "cartel's" wars for profit..and hold them accountable..lol. On all accounts, I found this interview refreshing. Time well spent.
