  • The Cornish majority do want devolution in the form of an autonomous assembly (55% MORI 2003).

We have 3 natioanlist parties fighting for that (one of them is in control of Cornwall).. the Lib Dems, Green Party and Mebyon Kernow.

  • I would have thought that's the other way around, it's the English saying the Cornish don't exist, like Hitler said Poland or Jews don't exist

The UK government already recognises the Cornish as a separate national minority than the English, it's not my fault if nobody told you that

  • @cornubian Yes I quite agree with you its luke warm at the very best we need a new radical approach to get heard more, I often thought of standing myself at times I could do at least as good a job as many, this decline came when the Tories put up the election fee from 200 quid to 1000 quid in one move.

  • @WELLBRAN - Yes we need a true Cornish Nationalist Party. Not some bunch of phoney civic nationalists saying to everyone how pro-Cornwall they are but when someone puts a sign on a bus stop that is pro-Cornish people then they come out moaning.

  • Every person in Cornwall has pure Cornish blood (we all slept with our mothers). If we don't gain independence, we will cut off all supplies of pasties & England will fall. Please support the Cornish Independence Group (all 7 of us).

  • @fletch2002 I would not put any of these 3 in that category MK goes for more localised issues in the old day 70 and 80's they stood mainly at the general election whereas now its Cornwall council issues that they concentrate on we need a NEW Cornish party who are more forceful, "in the face" kind of party, lib dems are NOT for Cornwall autonomy the greens have good policies which are important but they are not for any devolution much either, I might be wrong but I do not think so.

  • I have been all over the world and in most places the cronish or interest in cornwall is very very positive but there is one place where the mention of Cornish or cornwall is met with distain, ridicule and at times hatred its in ENGLAND and it starts right after the Tamar in plymouth....If we Cornish had black skins we would be laughing as we would be protected a lot better. no one would DARE be anti black skin cornish!! they would be in court right away....ahha! racist!!

  • @TheMarrification good for you, as you know exactly what you are and your background, so well done you! and as for the politics..you got that 100% right !!

  • I ALWAYS put Cornish on any ethnic tick box section on ANY form, so this was nothing new to me I also entered Cornish on this form

  • Unfortunately I cant claim to put Cornish only on the census as am part English, but I put mixed Cornish, English and damn proud to put Cornish on there!

I understand administratively at the moment Cornwall is governed under England and quite wrongly, but culturally and historically and ethnically they are not English at all and should be recognised as such. Big up Kernow

  • HellenicCharge (who goes round commenting against all Cornish vids on youtube - which in itself makes me highly suspicious) - I doubt you were laughing at the sight of 55,000 Cornish (largest gathering of us in history) that occurred in 1991 at Twickenham to support Cornwall at Rugby. This attendance proved that the Cornish self-identify as a separate ethnic and national group. It so happens that history supports this too...
