The launch of the Kilkenny Arts Festival took place in the busy environs of the Dublin Corporation Fruit Market on 30 June 2010.
A choir of 8 singers, directed by Fergus Sheils, sang some highlights of the festivals programme to the tune of the Hallelujah Chorus.
Why the Dublin Fruit Markets?
A market is a perfect place to launch Kilkenny Arts Festival. A lively, colourful, bustling place where you are spoiled for choice, but are free to pick and choose what suits you best. And you often end up with more than you bargained for!
Why a Choir?
At the Kilkenny Arts Festival in 2010, choral singing will take centre stage. As well as one of Britain's most celebrated choirs, The Cardinall's Musick and the Choir of St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast, for the first time in Kilkenny Arts Festival's 37-year history, the festival will host a Festival Choir with amateur choral singers from far and wide participating in workshops and rehearsals culminating in a performance led by Fergus Sheil in the magnificent St Canice's Cathedral.
