A not necessarily chronological montage of a journey to Campbeltown on the very west coast of Scotland. We have done this same journey exactly 1 year before in bright warm sunshine. This version looks a lot more dramatic!

Some of the places shown in the video are Callander, Crianlarich, Tarbert, Arrochar, Succoth, 'Rest and be Thankful', Inveraray, Furnace, Lochgilphead, Ardrishaig, West Tarbert, Kennacraig, Ballochroy, Muasdale, Bellochantuy, Kilchenzie, Campbeltown, Bellanoch, Kilmartin, Fincham, Eredine and the entire length of the east side of Loch Awe.

Filmed entirely on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera, with Canon 24-105mm f4.0 L IS USM lens. Editing was done in Sony Vegas Pro, as seen in the video. Due to issues with Vegas handling large numbers of 5DMk2 video files simultaneously, this was made in small chunks and rendered out as uncompressed 1080p AVI files (big!). The resulting files were then stitched back together in Vegas to produce the end result. The initial titles screen was made using particle effects in Adobe After Effects.

Music used is Fatboy Slim - Sunset

  • I am having the hardest time figuring out how to get the best quality out of my canon xl1s and vegas pro 8.

first off, the uncompressed .avi from the camera to vegas is a HUGE file and after rendering to avi, it is still huge. so i end up having to stick with wmv which is a little less quality.

on top of that I am having the hardest time figuring out the best settings to render for best resolution, especially upoloading to youtube.

your video is amazing in color too

  • I convert the videos from the camera to Cineform format using Neoscene - much easier to edit in this format, and pretty much lossless too which means you can render out to it and then put it back into the editor if you need!
