Mustard Ground - A wilderness area that skirts the north west shore of beautiful Lake Jocassee. The National Forest Service's road is open in the spring and fall during hunting season. Along the trail you have many scenic views of Lake Jocassee and cross White Water River just above the lower falls and then further along the trail you cross Coley Creek.
The road can be accessed off SC Highway 130 near Salem, SC. From highway 11 take S Carolina 130 N/Whitewater Falls Rd for 13 miles then turn right onto Bad Creek Rd at the entrance to the Duke Energy Bad Creek Hydro Electric Station. Take the first left off Bad Creek Road and the trailhead just down that road. This is a beautiful class 2 off road trail open to 4WD and AWD vehicles with a minimum of 8" ground clearance. My wife drove us to the end of the trail in about 1.5 hours. Once at the end you must turn around and trace your route back to the initial trail head.
Check with the SC DNR before traveling to the Mustard Grounds to verify the road is open. Even if it is not open the drive up SC highway 130 is beautify...
For a spectacular view of Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee make a side trip by turning left onto Wiginton road just before reaching the Bad Creek road. The overlook is a couple of miles up the road.
