Surf City Eastern Bloc was a B-side to their single No Cars Go taken from their second album Neon Bible. Its an odd song about a nameless person longing to break free at end of communism in the late 80's and go surfing? Yes you heard right, the wall is coming down and all he wants to do is go surfing?
i love in neon bible when he's playing this on piano and its just him, no big orchestra, and its so heartbreaking....this is still good too, but i love that little clip.

This is a very bittersweet song for me. I first heard it in 2008, shortly after I split up with my ex. Me and her were/are massive Arcade Fire fans, and I wanted to to do nothing more than to phone her and tell her to listen to it, but I couldn't.
It's one of my favourite Arcade Fire songs, and yet one that reminds me of good times that's gone by. It only highlights the saying "When do you realise that you're in love? When you've lost it."

@VampireMiw their first e.p. is easy to find in record stores or online ---great stuff, acoustic-ish.
but yeah, it's hardly surprising that a band like this just casually tosses out songs left and right. There's a U-tube vid of them covering New Order.....busking on the sidewalk.... outside one of their own shows or something! That's the mark of a good band --they just love music and playing music.

How do they have so many songs that I've never heard before? I had Funeral, Neon Bible and The Suburbs, but then yesterday I realized they have at least twenty songs I've never heard before.

Damn, this song sounds really Pink Floyd-ey, especially around 0:53 .
Good stuff, wouldn't expect anything less from Arcade Fire!
