Second half of a video essay about (the songwriting of) Neil Finn of Split Enz, Crowded House and Finn Brothers fame. The feature is based on an original interview with Neil and illustrated with video clip extracts. Released into the fan community by the filmmaker a year ago I figured it was too good to get lost (see disclaimer in pt. 1).

  • Hey great upload! Could you tell me where the version of Private Universe (5.30) is from? Would love to hear it all....cheers!

  • @drdmac You will find this version on the CD "Afterglow"; it is the acoustic version recorded at the same time as the one found on "Together Alone"

  • Thank you so much for posting this. What a talented man- what a talented family! Neil rarely gets the recognition he deserves as one of the best songwriters of all time. Here in the US most people don't even know who he is and they think that Crowded House was a "one hit wonder". So sad. They don't know what they're missing.

  • Neil's mother Mary once said something like this to him: "You'll always be alright, because a good tune is always in short supply."

RIP Mary Finn. What a gift she gave us with her sons.

  • @AndreasSimon great! thanks for the info and upload!

  • @AndreasSimon This is great, been reading a book on the Finn bros which makes them come across a little unappealing - this reminds me of the humour of Neill Finn. Thanks for uploading.

  • thank you for sharing this for us Finn minions....and managed to unearth two finn gems I never heard before.. excellent

  • Yes well, THAT (deep relaxation)'s easy Neil, when you live in paradise. Which, absolutely, you do.

  • That version of Last One Standing at the beginning literally made the hair on my arms stand on end. Thanks for posting this - so cool to get a glimpse into the mind of a songwriting genius.

  • Thanks for posting. Neil is one of the greats over the past 20 years and it's been a pleasure to follow his great career. So many great songwriters came from the "2nd British Invasion" like the Finns, Elvis C. Tilbrook, Partridge, Sting. Many of Neil's songs are still being discovered, I hope, as they are as good as it gets.

  • neil is the real deal,a reputation built on his songs..not pretention
