The University of Florida is providing scientific support to the 2013 Python Challenge. Each Burmese python collected is brought to our lab where we perform a necropsy on it. By examining the snake's gut contents, we can determine what the python has been eating. We also take various samples to test for genetics, contaminants in their muscle tissue, sperm viability, etc.

This python was brought in during the 2013 Python Challenge. Participants were required to humanely euthanize the Burmese pythons before bringing them in. Yes, it was captured in the Florida Everglades where these snakes are an invasive species.
