Teen Robbery in Polk County with Matt Englett
A central Florida teen accused of participating in a burglary that involved the death of another suspect faces an adult murder charge.
Polk County prosecutors filed adult charges Thursday against 16-year-old William Murphy. He was charged with second-degree felony murder, burglary of a dwelling and possession of burglary tools.
Authorities say Murphy and 15-year-old Otilio Rubio broke into a Davenport home Sept. 22. The homeowner shot at them, and Rubio later died from a head wound.
Under Florida law, individuals involved in a felony resulting in death can be charged with murder. The homeowner was not charged.
Two other teens who were waiting outside during the burglary have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and burglary. They are being sentenced as juveniles.
