This is the first test footage I shot with my new Panasonic AG-HMC150. It's a 1080p Hi-Def camera that, from what I saw, shoots amazing images. Now it's hard to compare a video camera to a 35mm film camera but I was surprised by the shallow Depth of Field I was able to achieve. The Dynamic Range on this camera was also pretty impressive looking at how far into the blacks you can see. It also shoots 720p at 60 frames per second so you can achieve true slow motion when you slow it back to 24 fps on playback.

I was so glad to see how easy it was to edit with this camera too. It's entirely solid-state, so it doesn't record onto tape but rather a tiny SD card. Importing it was super easy in Final Cut. Basically you plug in the camera, Log and Transfer, and just drag the clips you want to your cue and it imports to an Apple ProRes File in a few seconds. Super simple.

Well Enjoy the video!
(It doesn't have a real point by the way, just experimenting)

  • Great Footage. I'm curious, does anybody know home come the footage seems to chop up during the blind fold scene around minute 1:12. I've seen many cameras do that so i don't know which one to buy. does it have to do with shooting progressive/interlace or they way it's encoded? Any help would be great.

  • most likely your video card, there's a process known as vertical sync which the videocard will wait until the entire image is rendered before displaying it. YouTube doesn't seem to use this feature or whatever and sometimes only part of the image is displayed as its still rendering the rest. it all has to do with the refresh rate of your monitor (most likely 60Hz) and your video cards ability to sync with that refresh rate.

  • Very engaging tester... Good job man. Of course I'm probably pretty bias considering that after a few days of intense searching, I think I have settled on this camera :) For the price I just can't find any camera that seems to have better looking output. Also, as far as I can tell (please correct me if I'm wrong), I can buy a 32G 30mb/sec SD card that will capture 3 hours of 1080p HD footage on this cams highest quality setting for just $200. Is this true?

  • @lartrak just copped a i7 ....lovin' it.

  • The exposure looks great

  • @BBrtqB The size and number and physical size of sensors are a huge factor in cost and performance. Good cameras have 3 sensors, one for each primary color (RGB). They also have more secure audio inputs, more manual control, more advanced settings, function buttons instead of digging through layers of menus, and larger lenses to take in more light. You're right about many new small camcorders being better than older MiniDV cameras. Compare the Canon FS H100 to the Panasonic Ag-DVC7.
