Jack Hylton brings one of the hit songs from the musical "The Broadway Melody" (1929) starring Bessie Love and Anita Page. It is a very elegant version of the well known song. "Broadway Melody" was the first musical to win an Academy Award for best picture. The video is a selection of famed movie queens from the golden age of Hollywood, who in their own way seemed to be beautifully painted dolls. You will see among others : Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Anita Page, Fay Wray, Claudette Colbert, Jean Harlow and many others...

About the record : A beautifully preserved record.

HMV - B5637/6-739

The recording was made at Small Queen's Hall in London on 26/04/1929.

  • I can remember Alan Dell playing this on the day of Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981. However, he edited out the vocal refrain.

  • Sure would like names on the pics of the lovely ladies. I don't remember all of them. Thanks for this classic. Is it from a 78 rpm? J

  • Extra good..........your copy of this record is much better than mine. Cannot hear any background noise on your recording................Extra Impressive !!

  • A piano arrangement of this tune was the piece my Mom played the most often. She has not played in over 30 years and I have her sheet music now. Maybe I will learn to play it for her 95th birthday in September.

  • Thank You! Enjoyed the shots of the true glamour girls, esp.Norma & Clara. I love this movie, old though it may be...Nacio Herb Brown was a genius!

  • Gute Klangqualität, gutes Video. Besten Dank!

  • I wish the clip from Broadway Melody (1929) were available. It's bizarre, but charming in its own hokey way, probably the best part of a rather clunky early talkie.

  • Good to hear this, my Grand Mother used to sing it to me when I was little.

  • I always look at old yearbooks when I go to the barbershop with my husband. In it, I found a picture of a girl who was a senior in high school in 1931. Something about her just drew me to her. There was a page where the seniors could put their favorite songs and she chose this. I always wanted to hear it. She's gone now, I'm sure, but I feel connected since hearing this. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for posting this song. I love this version
