AND had you been living here or were familiar with this town, you would see that this was NOT a puny storm. It was 1/2 mile wide at times and was on the ground traveling through town for 22 minutes. Please do not respond to this, as I live in this wonderful and strong town.

To see a 6-story hospital, a large high school, and numerous schools and buildings flattened shows that only if you are underground (in basements) will a person be safe. But not the buildings.

Yes, you folks from Oklahoma were so welcome. Working at clearing debris, rebuilding homes, and for no reason other than we needed you. People from many places came here to volunteer and some are still here (especially on the weekends). And the young people, college age, have been wonderful. Now it's our turn to help out another part of the country. The area that Sandy hit.

The problem in Joplin is that the sirens go off many times and there seems to be no reason. The television stations break in with announcements of thunderstorms, etc. It's like the little boy who cried wolf.
