Technically, parts of Long Island are in NYC (Brooklyn and Queens). But most New Yorkers at the time considered NYC to be just Manhattan and the Bronx.

@wmlfan9 If you watch the look on Dorothy's face you can tell that she looks uncomfortable every time she asks a question. When she asks the question about if the business makes money, she smirks a bit after his answer.

It's a pretty safe bet that Dorothy would have seen a performance of her husband's musical. In fact, she probably would have met everyone in the cast - there aren't THAT many performers on stage during a stage production. I'm surprised she did not recognize him right off the bat. Or am I making too many assumptions here?

Richard Kollmar's last Broadway musical production "The Body Beautiful" flopped loudly -- despite that fact that it featured the writer / composer who would in 1964 create "Fiddler on the Roof." It was a musical about -- brace yourselves -- boxing.
After this sequence, Phil Silvers appeared as a mystery guest (it is available in YouTubia) and chided Dorothy for not recognizing Becker. She explained that she didn't know him with his clothes on. Badda bing badda boom.
What a fun trick on Dorothy!

You're making too many assumptions. Shows in the 1950s and 1960s were HUGE affairs with casts that could number well over 50 or 60...shows now tend to be smaller to have a better chance of turning a profit.
