ESOcast is a video podcast series dedicated to bringing you the latest news and research from ESO - Astronomy made on planet Earth. Here we explore the Universe's ultimate frontier with our host Dr. J, a German astronomer at the ESO. His scientific interests are in cosmology, particularly on galaxy evolution and quasars. Dr. J's real name is Joe Liske and he has a PhD in astronomy.

ESO is the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere. Created in 1962, ESO provides state-of-the-art research facilities to European astronomers and astrophysicists and is supported by Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Several other countries have expressed a strong interest in joining the organisation. Whilst the Headquarters (comprising the scientific, technical and administrative centre of the organisation) are located in Garching near Munich, Germany, ESO operates, in addition to the Santiago Centre, three observational sites in the Chilean Atacama desert.

Ahhh it gives one hope to know that we, as a species, have got out shit enough together to be able to make something like this place exist. Anyone else feel there wasn't exactly a great deal of substance to what the actors and director of the movie had to say? Tho I guess that's not really what the podcast is about. But if it gets more people interested in the actual science, so much the better...
