UK version of the US model 63, this is later than the use model, 1958 maybe? Its quite different than the US 63, this is more like the US model 61. This has been "Americanized" with a 110V motor. Thanks to Kev for this wonderful treasure!
Hi just wanted to write and say thanks for the info on my vac, just thought I would tell you that my 63 is complete and looks and works wonderful. It is all original now with the original outer bag, tools with caddy and even the manual. I even rebuilt the brush roll with new brush strips old stock and repainted. Now I finally have my dream vac and one of these days I will post a video of it
Ok thanks I add you as a friend so I can send the message. When I complete my vac I will post a video of it. It is in amazing shape there is not rust or any paint loss except for the handle release and runs like new. I also have the original attachements and manual except for the dusting brush.
I love the 638. My one is all replacement parts, though - you just never see them with original bags, cords or hand-grips, so you have a great find there! I managed stupidly to ruin the motor on mine, too, so I need to do a motor-swap at some point. I'm really waiting on a donor machine, but you don't see 638s very often. The 612 seems to have been far more popular.
The 638 was made July 1955 - August 1959. What's the serial number of yours? I can give you a rough production date!
hi I love this vac actually the US model is a 64 citation which I would like to have someday. I do not have a collection of vacs but love to look at them. also this vac in a the model 62 was featured as a promo on a I love lucy episode the red version. she also showed using the tools to. I would love to see a video of this vac with the tools to?

the 63's bag ring will be too large, but with some careful work, you can get one of those bags to work. I have a Convertible bag on my model 634.

Typical of all UK 638's the handle rubbers perished.. It must have been something in the die they used that reacted with the rubber..
What I can't understand is why the US models didn't have rubber handle grips until late on?
