The legislative branch makes law and the executive branch carries them out. If the executive doesn't like the law as written then veto it. That's the rebuke by Obama to the previous administration, and he has done so with a flourish. Love how at the end of the segment Chris Matthews compares it to driving over Bush then backing over him just to make sure.

  • Uh, either you don't realize that Obama just made an extremely dictatorial signing statement just 2 days after Obama made that promise, or you're obfuscating intentionally.

  • Executive Orders are not Signing Statements.

  • Of course, that's a whole other area of trouble. Obama used a signing statement to usurp to himself the Legislature's power of the purse strings by rejecting the spending bill provision that would allow Congress in the case of no military recommendation to deny appropriations for sending our US troops to serve under foreign command. Really.
