A wonderful example of the art of the "forgotten" member of the French Wave, the superb Jacques Rivette. Here he enters the world of the self-conscious musical (a genre that could be said to have been jumpstarted by Godard with "Une Femme Est Une Femme"). The film is "Haut Bas Fragile," and the actresses are Marianne Denicourt (who had "the Audrey Tautou look" long before Audrey was even working in film) and Natalie Richard.

  • @Zerusuke yeah

  • It likes it very much this work.

The sound track that the tune of ENZOENZO enters is not sold in Japan.

It is the ..scene.. highest of that club.

  • she was singing there.

  • What do you think are the best Rivettes? How would you rate his best? Thanks.

  • I saw this years ago, didn't get it. Now having seen almost all of Rivette ( including all 13 hours of Out One ) I'm a bit closer.

I can say that this is the very opposite of Godard. As always, it's about the danger of fantasy. How reality is already more fantastic and dark than most can believe. There's worldwide political conspiracies, nostalgia, delusion, and betrayal as "l'amour fou," and a suicide club. And Natalie Richard's dance, her version of Celine's magic candy.

  • How beautiful.

Wasn't Anna Karina in this movie?
