Why do Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 contradict each other on the creation of man within the scriptures? Could it be that the two accounts were drawn from two different documents? I thought God was perfect!

  • .....summary wasn't in chronological order, or would you expect me to realize you gave me the chronological order the first time and the second time you were merely summarizing your day? Trust me, Genesis 1 is chronological, and Genesis 2 is a summary.

  • @shadapple

According to whom? You’re assumption is an apologetical harmonization of contradicting texts. There is absolutely no evidence that what you’ve said is true. Show me where, in the Bible, it suggests that one creation story is just a summarization of the other.

  • *sigh* There aren't two creation stories. The "first" is a rundown of when EVERYTHING was created, the whole world. The "second" goes into more detail of when man was created, and the plants and animals that are created after are thought to be created in the Garden of Eden in front of Adam as God's way of saying that yes he did create the world, and here's how so Adam would have no doubt. And it's God, singular. When he says OUR he's talking the way a king talks.

You have done nothing but speculate. I have provided the verifiable information to support my claims. You can ignore the facts but "elowah" is singular for god in Hebrew. In the original text the word used is elohym, which is plural. Instead of getting your biblical education from the pulpit, I suggest going to a library and visit amazon.com.

  • ...of course it depends on which of the MANY versions of the bible you read.

  • They may be worded differently, but they all take on the same general meaning.

  • @shadapple Not true these are two entirely different creations. genesis 1 finished a creations and genesis 2 is a creation that begins generations later. READ CLOSELY. there is a difference between God and Lord God.

  • @LMc6557 Could be the bible was written by men who thought the earth was flat.

  • @nebulajr The Bible wasn’t meant to be taken literally, it can be interpreted in many ways. One reason could be what shadapple said, that Genesis 1 is chronological, and Genesis 2 is a summary; but it could also be that Genesis 1 is a general summary of how the entire world was created while Genesis 2 be a summary about the creation of the Garden of Eden. Another reason could be that the two stories are from two different sources on the same account.

  • Debunked 8 seconds into the video. Genesis 1 contains the chronological order of creation, Genesis 2 is a summary. In other words...If you called me in the morning and told me you were going to the bank, then the post office, then the library, then the store, and you did them in that order. Later in the day I asked how your day went and you said, "Well running to the Library, Post office, store and bank wore me out, but I took a nap so I'm rested. Am I to assume you are a liar because the......

  • ok, so, i'm a christian, who grew with most of the answers. My religion changed a lot over 100 years and has mixed science with faith (figure it out). So, when the hebrews were exiled into babylon, the children were exposed to many of the babylonian religious culture, and the creation stories were of humans created as slaves, and world created of destruction. so, one of the hebrew priests wrote one saying god created us out of love. The story was expanded on by some kind centuries later.

  • The bible is very old and was written way before science could actually explain most things around us. People asked why (why things around us were there). That was a good question but without the scientific background, the "facts" were established and the people believed it.

  • You underestimate the problem. Job 38-42 has another creation story, used to write Psalms and Isaiah.

  • 2. If one has any knowledge of Hebrew/Akkadian linguistics(Discourse Grammar)knows that they are notorious for explaining first then detail to follow. There is no contradiction, just the lack of educating oneself and getting over bias wanting of opposition w/o study.
