Tony Norgard (Joey Albright) really wants to go ice fishing. To avoid going to his mother-in-law's birthday party, Tony feigns being ill and sneaks off after his wife leaves. But Tony's day is plagued by odd occurrences that range from ruining his wife's car to battling with a giant finger-eating pike to having his truck fall through the ice. It is the tale of a cantankerous father (Ernest Borgnine) and his bumbling, but well-meaning son who share a joyous obsession for the age old art of ice fishing.
