Two recent college graduates embark on a mission to see where America's food comes from—by growing it. In the rural town of Greene, Iowa, the two friends plant a single acre of the nation's most powerful crop, and then set out to follow it from a seed to the dinner plate.

KING CORN premieres Tuesday, April 15 on INDEPENDENT LENS, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Terrence Howard, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.

  • Row crop GMO corn is destroying our nation. The pesticides and fertilizers. The water wasted. Deforesting. Soil Depletion. Growing TONS of corn just so we can feed cows, and wind up with a few steaks.

The horrendous physical side affects from our corn based diet. Corn syrup gluttony. Rotten TEETH. Diabetes.

  • ethonal will destroy our farming systems because it takes too much water to make fuel out of corn.

  • @hegenau6 GMO corn is designed to take on pesticides like round up in order to grow correctly. Thanks Monsanto.......

  • Most American dinner plates have 6 countries of origin. If the NorthEast got hit by a catastrophic disaster, they would run out of food within 7-14 days. Sure, we grow a lot of plants, but you can't really call it food. Corn, wheat and soybeans just don't do it for me. I need veggies!

  • WOW well there ya go then - soon it will be oxygen rich air

  • there is three types of corn; flint, dent and sweet. Sweet corn is what you find in the store and farmers markets. Flint corn really isnt grown in the US. And dent is also knows as field corn. If you eat field corn at the right time before it starts to mature (aka, before the glucose is converted to starch) it will taste prety sweet.

GMO crops reduce the use of herbicides, insecticides, and fertilzers. plain and simple.

  • That's part of the point. The corn isn't eaten AS IS. It's processed a million different ways by which it ends up in everything on your plate at McDonald's

  • Wow. I could not believe that their are Americans that buy into this! Of course they don't eat the corn they grow! ITS FIELD CORN! You can't just eat it! Livestock eats field corn. This nonsense is ridiculous!

  • they are privatizing water in my city

  • LOL...Thx
