One LLRV crashed at Edwards AFB during a demonstration flight before aerospace and government VIPs, killing its pilot. It's why there was an ejection seat in the later version which Neil Armstrong had to bail out of.
The real LM had small windows, which made it difficult to have good visibility in any seating position. The solution, although simple, took a while to be found - land and take off with the astronauts standing up.
