There is a fallen boulder at the top of the Rake which is unsafe - it fell a number of years ago and is of concern to the Team as it will eventually collapse - hopefully one night when there is no one around - take great care when approaching it (more)

  • It was considered as it could be done at night when paths below are clear and it could be controlled. National Trust brought in an expert who advised that it should be left to take it natural course. It will eventually tumble and if it is my lifetime I will report it. Thanks for the comment

  • The chockstone as seen in the vid is the problem. Pretty unlucky if you where caught when it fell but the outcome would likely be fatal

  • Thanks for the comme NKS - probably fatal at best - I worry about the poor person who becomes trapped underneath it as it could be an impossible task to get them out in without further trauma.

  • I thought it wasn't safe to climb Lord's Rake because of the precarious boulder. Is this a report of condition?

  • The team does not wish to give advice on matters of safe or unsafe routes per say - so the video is more a comment on condition.

I wear a helmet when I go up to lead by example but to be quite honest if you are there when it goes it won't provide much protection - a helmet will provide head protection to flying rocks though (of which there will be plenty)

  • Excellent informative video of the site. I last did LR just before the boulder originally dislodged, and obviously haven't been back in there since, but it's interesting to see close up what has happened.

I wonder if forced ways to dislodge the rock would be considered, or if it will just be left for time to take it's course?
