I love this song. I got it on a John Betjeman CD. There was a problem with this CD, so the release was stopped. So I had to pay quite a lot for this CD. Later is was published. My copy was called 'Words and Music'. The leaflet is a bit unclear, but it looks like Mike Read composed the melody.

I'm one of the singers on this song my name is Tony Rivers I also arranged the harmonies. This has never been classed as a gospel song, it is a bit Christmassy, but definitely not gospel. The lyrics are from Sir John Betjeman's poetry as are all the lyrics on the album which was originally called Words and Music.
