  • The thing is, Desormeaux didn't know what was wrong with Big Brown and why he didn't have anything left in the tank. He didn't know if something was wrong with him physically or not. All he knew was that Big Brown was not the same horse he was in all his previous races. He was being cautious and thats better than pushing him to finish and risk injury.

  • You dont finish out a race that you cant win, period. If you look at any racing form in any country you will see horses losing by 40 lengths in every race. They ease their horses when all possibility of hitting the board is lost. They should simply have said thank you Kent for overcoming the 20 post in the derby and then not getting lured into a duel in the preakness...

  • Iavarone is right- Big Brown should have finished out the race. Alysheba didnt pull up even though he was hopelessly beaten in the Belmont.
