this recording is astonishing considering its vintage.

This recording dwarfs the beautiful versions by Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and Jo Stafford. Great as these are, the incomparable Clara Butt puts more emotion into the words, her phrasing is formidable, and her diction is crystalline. An incomparable artist!
