She was Denmarks's King Christian IX's (d. 1906) daughter, and therefore Princess of Denmark. Christian was famously succesful in positioning his children: one became King of Greece, one daughter queen of England, another one Empress of Russia. And one, of course, inherited the crown of Denmark. Their family gatherings were pretty VVIP affairs.

Queen Alexandra is the paternal great grand-mother of Queen Elizabeth II.

Thanks for creating this little slice of history!!

Empress Elisabeth of Austria gave her opinion of "Alex": she thought Alexandra was the most best dressed woman in Europe. seeing her pictures I agree: It's a pity that Alexandra was not very emancipated: she did n't oppose to her husband's escapades.

Interesting that in far-flung regions of the old Empire, Queen Alexandra's name pops up. Here in Victoria, British Columbia, we have a QA hospital originally built in 1926 - date being coincidental with QA's death in 1925.

I would love to see the BBC do a proper miniseries about this extraordinary woman. She fascinates me. She came over from Denmark so young, and had Queen Victoria watching every step she made, and still, never faltered or entertained a breath of scandal (she left that to her husband). I can't imagine why there hasn't been any specials done about her yet (and if there has been, and simply don't know about it - I'm an American, after all! - somebody PLEASE let me know?)

After Edward VII's passing, she was quoted as saying, "I was the one he loved the best", responding to the fact that he had an assortment of mistresses during their marriage.

Queen Alexandra is my favorite. The difference between Alexandra and Princess Diana was that Alexandra was loved by everyone (including the royal family). Don't get me wrong. I did like Diana but Alexandra had something special. Edward VII is my favorite king because he was friends with everyone in Europe (except for maybe his nephew in Germany).

A beautiful and stylish Princess of Wales,, not very well educated, kind and generous , fond of kids and animals, devoted to charitable works, and cheated on by her husband. Sound familiar?

She was by all accounts a fun loving Mother and a kind lady.
Apparently, when she arrived from Denmark she was alone - literally.
She wasnt allowed to bring any Danish maids or servants because Queen Victoria didnt want her conversing with her servants in her native language and not knowing what they may have been talking about!

Just beautiful coker10, Queen Alexandra was a real lady with a human side, not like today's Royals.
