Tula marked Sniper rifles with a large Cyrillic "S P" (early) and "S N" (late) on either side of the top point of the star on the barrel. Izhevsk did not use a similar mark, but did place the serial number of the scope along the woodline of the left side of the barrel. These marks and the plugged mount holes are the easiest way to tell if a rifle is an ex-sniper.

Is it just me or the rifle? I can't hit much pass 70 yards.

@MichaelkSimmons This is a difficult rifle to shoot, it is heavy, doesn't have the best sights, and has a short length of pull but it could also be the rifle since they are several decades old. If I was you I would see what you could hit with it off a bench rest if you haven't tried that yet. Some of the mosins will shoot a 3 or 4 inch group at 100 yards and some will shoot a 12 inch group, it just depends on your specific rifle. I hope this has been helpful.
