Video of a rather small Lion's Mane Jellyfish taken for a final project in my Zoology course. Found in the sound water at Fort Pickens beach. These jellies are very common around the Pensacola Beach area.

A little about Lion's Mane jellies...

The Lion's Mane jellyfish is the largest known species of jellyfish in the world, and is also one of the longest known animals. The largest Lion's Mane found thus far had a bell that was 7 feet 6 inches wide, and tentacles that reached 120 feet, which is longer than the blue whale that is commonly thought to be the longest animal in the world. Despite their enormous size, there have been very few deaths caused by its stings. Stings by the Lion's Mane jellyfish usually results in immense pain and burns on the skin.

  • ummmm..........i think the jellyfish is dead.

  • @vanillastar011 Definitely not. Do you not see it moving? The water was fairly still, with the exception of a little bit of wind.

  • I use to love to look at Jellyfish but i got stung by a manawore (i think thats what its called) and now i wont even go in the water if i see one.

  • Man O' War...

  • it tends to go the smaller something is the more venom and more fatal the sting or bite will be

  • That isn't the case with Lion's Mane jellies. The larger they are, the more dangerous their stings are.
