House Resolution 376 sponsored by Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt to require the National Park Service to conduct a study to determine the best method of protecting the 1862 and 1864 Civil War battlefields at Newtonia, Missouri has won House approval.
It would be a good idea to preserve the battlefield site as it was the only Civil War battlefield where native forces opposed each other. Moreover the place is quite unchanged compared to other battlefield locations and ripe for preservation. It would also be good for the community economically from tourism in an area that could use an economic boost.
