is it just me or has Lars forgotten to de-grease his cast before he threw his amory at that 16"+ grayling??? He is quiet right a special feeling in the old tackle. That cock grayling is a beauty at the end, notice the irridescent colours on the rear dorsal fin.
@silverleapers Ah well, this aint goin nowhere! its just my experience and that of thousands of other anglers in this part of the world versus your word that newfoundland friends of yours had great success over here with dries. dont worry, I'll be giving it a shot again this year like i do every year and will let you know if the fish in the river i fish have changed their preference. But honestly, we will try every method over here. Experience strongly suggests our fish arent keen on the dries.
@bilaffan I only know 4 Newfoundlander's that have fished in the UK...all done very well catching salmon with our dry flies...lol Guess its only UK dry fly anglers that the salmon refuse to rise for. "I can't explain it but thats the beauty of salmon fishing!"
@silverleapers ... now dont get me wrong- I respect the method where it works and wish our salmon rose freely to dries like they do over there in Newfoundland and elsewhere, its an awesome sight and the most exciting way to hook any fish. Sadly it is not the case as countless other open-minded anglers from around here can attest to from their personal experiences. I know you refuse to believe it but our salmon act differently to yours. I cant explain it but thats the beauty of salmon fishing!
@silverleapers Oh Jesus are you still going on about this??? you still havent got to UK/Ireland and tried out dead drifting dries for our salmon, have you? still certain of the success you'd have too i bet! Irish salmon fishing is not elitist nor conservative, Ive had salmon on just about every size and shape of wets and nymphs you can imagine, skated, dead drifted under the surface, stripped downstream, cross stream... but never dead drifted on the surface despite YEARS of bomber experiments.
Well done! Thanks for posting....actually I think one of the first and most popular books about "greased line fishing" mentions fishing with a drag free wet fly for salmon....unfortunately most readers misinterpret what is being talked about and assume he's fishing the fly drag free but wet....actually he was trying to explain salmon dry fly fishing with a wet fly. Pity the UK-ers missed his point.
