The Tall Ships last visited the River Mersey in 1992 when hundreds of thousands of people lined the banks of the river to watch the Parade of Sail. The climax of the weekend was a concert held at Kings Dock entitled Fanfare for the New World hosted by Sir Peter Ustinov, with performances from Montserrat Caballé and the RLPO, and attended by the King and Queen of Spain.
