  • Do you recommend the Pilatus as aerobatic glider or recommend you another aerobatic glider more. regards Rogier (the Netherlands)

  • @Falcon16R

The Pilatus B4 is not the best glider for aerobatic. But I think it is one of the best if want to have a glider that you actually can do something more with than aerobatic.

For competition aerobatic the pilatus is very special and it not a easy to make competition aerobatics good. I think that I will change glider for the next year. I have been flying results between 70 and 75 % at the World championship in advanced category, and I think that is the best I can do in a Pilatus. -->

  • @Falcon16R

--> In the Swedish championship this year I was trying a MDM-1 "Fox" and that is not the same thing as flying a pilatus. I think the fox is very nice for aerobatic but worthless for everthing else.

If you learn to fly aerobatic very good in a pilatus, there will not be a big problem to fly a fox. I flew 4 starts before the swedish championship and got a score of 76%

  • Very nice! I have lost my confidence when flying aerobatics with a Pilatus B4PC11AF, very wary to not 'upset the local soaring pilots. How did you acquire your accurate skills?

    Regards, Graham.

  • @doffincodger

    Thanx!

Try to find an area close to, or over the field as you can use as your box. And always use the same place then the other pilots know where you are when you fly.

To be a great aerobatic pilot you need a lot of flying in the Pilatus. If you can take help from someone on the ground so they can look at angles etc.

    Good luck!

  • Really facinating to see how you have total control trough the manouvers. Both on the glider and yourself! Congrats and thanks for the best glideracrovideo I'v seen on utube!

  • @XCSoaring Thank you vey much!

  • @Falcon16R If you want more info on flying glider aerobatics on a Pilatus, send me a message. I'm flying aerobatics on one at ZC Flevo, Biddinghuizen.

  • The Pilatus B4 is an extremely versatile aircraft. Fully aerobatic, and a very capable soaring aircraft too! Recently, I have been flying a Grob Acro 3, and I almost prefer flying this a/c , than a B4?

Obviously, a far more enjoyable and capable a/c than a 'dopey K21?

  • I am very fortunate to have an excellent Pilatus B4 to fly! However, some dual training with a Fox, would be enlightening?

  • @Aerobaticjohan thanks for your answer. I'm looking for a good and not very expensive

aerobatics plane. where I maybe can fly aerobatics competitions in the future.

  • Thanks Johan, for your advice, your brilliant skills have lifted my ambitions to learn to fly a Pilatus B4 with more skill, and more fun!

  • I am going to to fly a Pilatus B4 more often now, with an established 1 k box. I don't envisage any help from 'a soaring club! However, my total flight time from a 2400' launch was merely 4 minutes- we have a brilliant winch!

  • Thank you for your kind response-you are very welcome to fly G-DDSV when in UK. (see G-INFO)
