It's interesting how people just brush this camera aside before really getting to know it and know how the functions on this camera work. I have both the D700 and the D300s and honestly I love the D300s a lot more. Using a tripod, using the AE-L lock button can do wonders for the video mode....it's all about knowing how to use the camera and when you do you can do so much with it.
The only reason I will buy a D300s is the 2 memory slots and the additional 1fps not due to the video function.
If you want a SLR with video mode I will recommend to wait the "next generation" because the first one are DSLR with the addition of video functions. If you need a camera with good video mode then try Panasonic Lumix GH1 (but this camera has no mirror).

That's terrible Auto Focus in Video Mode. And video quality itself is still bad.
Thanks for Video. Now I know that I don't need to upgrade from my D300.
