Use your mobile phone to keep trees in the forest!
You my be surprised to hear of the scale of the impact they can also have. For each 120 typical paperback size publications a tree is cut and turned into paper and for each dictionary 24 litres of water are used and 450kWs of energy consumed.
In addition to this, according to the USDA Forest Service, a tree generates $31,250 worth of oxygen, provides $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycles $37,500 worth of water, and controls $31,250 worth of soil erosion, over its 50-year life. So, for each dictionary the average tree in the forest would have $25 worth of environmental benefits per year.
Why Forests?
Forests play an important role in shaping the earths climate and atmosphere.
Forests are natural sponges and critically important in regulating water supply.
Forest destruction directly contributes to flooding, landslides, spread of disease, and reduced agricultural production.
Forests are home to diverse and endangered wildlife and provide the home and spiritual identity to many indigenous peoples.
Rural poor are directly dependent on forest resources which provide critical sources of food, shelter and a means to earn income.
Rampant logging and forest clearance has reduced forests in Asia by more that three quarters since 1900
Use electronic paperless dictionaries and do a little bit for the environment!
